But when you are washing your car, you have to take care of somethings no matter which product or tool you are using. There are some common mistakes that a car owner does during a car cleaning session. Here are the top 10 car cleaning mistakes that you should always avoid.
01. Using Ordinary Detergent, Dish Washer or Soap To Clean Your Car
The most common mistake that a car owner may do is using ordinary soap, dish wash, or detergent to wash a car. Those products are not suitable for your car paint & those may strip the protective wax coating from your car surface as those are not made specifically for your car wash. Also, those ordinary soaps & detergents are not PH balanced that your car required. This may end up damaging the clear coating of your car surface. Also, do not use a degreaser to wash your car. What you should use us is a Car Soap or Automotive Soap to wash your car. Use a Car Foam Gun for the best result.
02. Washing Your Car in Direct Sunlight
This mistake is also very common for a car owner while cleaning his/her car. Sometimes you may not consider the weather or the place where you are going to wash yours. You may just take your car outside & start washing. If you choose a place where the sunlight directly hitting your car, then it will damage your car surface, the worst thing that might happen is leaving marks on the paint. The reason behind this is the direct sunlight will make the car surface hot & when you are cleaning your car with water, it will cause the water to evaporate & leave watermarks on your car paint. And the other problem is that the chemicals you are using like a Car Detailing Spray will not work correctly on a hot surface. The perfect time to wash your car is when the sun is setting & there is a nice light so that you can see all the details of your car properly. If you need to wash your car during the day, just choose a place with no direct sunlight, maybe under a big tree in the backyard. Also, do not wash your car right after you go home after driving, and the car surface is hot.
03. Using Ordinary Towel, Old Clothes or Ordinary Scrubber
When you are washing your car, never use an ordinary towel, old cloth, or ordinary scrubber. Those things may feel soft to you, but the risk is there are some particles present on these things which you may no feel with your bare hand, but sure those will leave scratches on your car surface. Always use a Microfiber Towel to wash your car that is specially made for your car. This will never leave any swirl or scratch if you use this properly.
04. Cleaning Dry Surface Without Lubricating
Sometimes you may need to clean a particular area of your car. For example, if there are bird droppings on your car front, then normally you will just wipe that area to remove the bird dropping. When you are doing this, just spray some lubricant like Car Detailing Spray on that & then wipe off using a microfiber towel. Wipe once, then fold your microfiber towel & then wipe again using the clean part. Never ever just wipe off your car surface using a dry microfiber towel. The acid in bird droppings may breakdown your car pain if you do so. Also, if there is any solid particle, then a dry towel will surely leave a scratch. If you do not have a car lubricant or detailing spray, you can wet the microfiber towel with car wash soap and water then wipe it off.
05. Not Wetting Your Car Before Cleaning
The mistake that some people do is start cleaning & rubbing their car without making it wet before. What you always need to do is make your car wet using plenty of water before cleaning and rubbing session. When it comes to rinsing your car with water, using a bucket is a kind of old school and a hard-working thing as well. Use a Car High-Pressure Washer for comfortable car cleaning. When you are using a high-pressure car washer, make sure you adjust the speed before using it on your car surface. To make sure that it does not hurt your car surface, keep your hand in front of the nozzle & run water. If it does not hurt your hand, then it is suitable to use in your car.
06. Starting Cleaning From The Bottom
Sometimes when you are about to clean your car, you may not consider from which part you are going to start cleaning. If you start cleaning from the bottom of your car, then it is a very common mistake that may ruin your whole efforts. Always start cleaning from the top of your car. You may also make an invisible line in your mind, which will divide the car into two parts: top and bottom. And then start cleaning from the top following the bottom part. But if you are about to clean your car wheels, tires, and rims, there may be one exception. You can clean those parts before starting cleaning the top.
07. Using Same Microfiber Towel for Cleaning All Parts
We have seen people making this mistake again & again. You never should use the same microfiber towel to clean all parts of your car, like cleaning the surface & rim. The dirt that your car surface contains is not as hard as the dirt remains on the rims. The rim dirt is gritty & acidic. If some of these remain in the microfiber towel, it will surely leave a scratch on your car paint. That is why make sure you have at least two microfiber towels for different parts of your car.
08. Not Cleaning The Microfiber Towel Frequently
The microfiber towel you are using should always remain clean. That is why you need to clean it as frequently as you can. One thing to be remembered always uses an extra bucket that has clean water in it to wash your microfiber towel. Do not just clean it in the bucket that has soap water. And in case you drop the towel on the ground, do not just use it without washing properly. The microfiber towel will easily catch particles from the ground, which will leave a scratch on your car paint. The best idea is not to use that towel again if you do not want to take any risk.
09. Cleaning Your Car In a Swirling or Circular Motion
This may not seem like a mistake for some of you. But if you clean your car in a swirling or circular motion, then it is more likely that you will see scratches at different angles. To avoid this, choose a direction to clean & rub your car surface. The best idea is to go from front to back. And of course, stick to that direction you choose.
10. Not Washing Car Undercarriage
